Dallas Cup Match Report – U18s

Everton Football College 4-4 Maplebrook 2001 Elite

The U18s kicked off their Dallas Cup tournament against MAPLEBROOK 2001 Elite in dramatic style.

In the early stages of the game Maplebrook were awarded a penalty and Sam M pulled off a great reflex save to keep the game level. Maplebrook then took the lead with a nice play which was tapped in at the far post, the boys subsequently fell 2-0 down but dug in to keep it to that score until half time.

As the second half progressed the boys battled well but after a quick counter attack found themselves 3-0 down. Maplebrook were awarded another penalty which was put away making the game 4-0 down with 30 minutes remaining.

After two substitutions the boys kept working and were rewarded when substitute Rob W, with his first touch of the game, pulled the ball to the back post for Josh N to tap into an empty net. From the kick off the boys started again, a great through ball from James H split the defence for Joe K to slot through the Keeper’s legs making the game 4-2. Their confidence growing, the boys kept the pressure on, not giving Maplebrook time to breathe on the ball and this paid off with the referee awarding an indirect free kick. Left Back Jack W stepped up, put the ball down and hit a thunderbolt which split the defensive wall and shot past the Keeper making the game 4-3 with five minutes left.

The boys never gave up and with the last kick of the game Joe K volleyed the ball past the Keeper for his second to complete a dramatic comeback.
