Which Pathway to Take?
At Everton Football College we offer a variety of study pathways:
At our base on Spellow Lane we offer Level 1 – 3 Sport qualifications to cater for all GCSE results. Upon successful completion of each level are students are able to progress from Level 1 to 2 or from level 2 to 3. After successful completion of Level 3 most students apply to study at University or for an apprenticeship.
Allocated form tutors help you progress and look after your academic and pastoral welfare. We also offer GCSE English & Maths for those students who need to gain a grade 4 or above.
In addition to study, enrichment opportunities include football coaching and playing for our teams, the chance to obtain coaching awards and the opportunity to develop your sports coaching through EitC and work experience both home and abroad.
We offer an elite academic and performance pathway at our Vauxhall Motors site in Ellesmere Port. Students can combine Level 3 Sport study with playing football to academy youth standard. Students play in the National Youth League and have the opportunity to play at the Dallas Cup.
All students are allocated a form tutor for academic, pastoral and performance support. Enrichment opportunities include access to Core Fitness in order to improve fitness, playing in National Leagues and work experience both home and abroad.
Students typically progress to semi-professional football, gain playing scholarships in the USA or successfully apply to University to study a variety of undergraduate courses
Level 2 OCR Sport Extended Certificate (1 Year)
Level 3 BTEC Sport Extended Diploma (2 Year)
As a Football College student you will have the chance to study a Level 2 OCR Sport Extended Certificate or a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport. The programme allows you to achieve first-class qualifications through classroom and vocational learning, while building your independence and gaining valuable practical experience in the sport and leisure industry.
Students at Everton Football College have a 100% pass rate – and the Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Sport is the equivalent of three A-Levels.
Embedded into these courses is football coaching and playing to enhance your practical skills and experience.
If you choose to follow the BTEC Course from Year 12 into Year 13, you will complete modules covering a range of subjects which include: coaching, anatomy and physiology, psychology, nutrition, work experience and performance analysis.
In addition to the main qualification you will have the chance to gain extra qualifications like the FA Level 1 Coach Award and Sport Leader Awards.
Level 3 Diploma Physical Education & Sport School
The Level 3 Diploma offers students the chance to gain experience within a school’s Physical Education Department, as well as studying in college.
This course will appeal to students who wish to gain employment coaching and teaching within a school environment, assisting teachers with lessons and leading after-school clubs and activities.
You will be expected to gain a work experience placement within a primary school for one day a week and attend college for theory sessions.
Evidence is portfolio-based, similar to an NVQ where you will study 12 units of work in, and out, of the classroom.
NVQ Level 2 Activity Sport Leadership
Studying for an NVQ is ideal if you wish to gain employment and experience within designing, coaching and evaluating sports sessions. You will be assessed through a portfolio-based folder, containing all the core knowledge you need to deliver sessions, including evidence of taking part in practical and class-based activities.
You need to demonstrate an interest in working with children, adults and participants with disabilities, working towards developing their skills and confidence within the sports sessions.
You will be based in school for two to three days, with the rest of the week spent in the community, undertaking work experience with Everton in the Community’s Sport Development Team or the Academy staff, organising and running sports sessions. You will need a flexible approach to studying as you may be required to assist on sessions in the evening or at weekend.
Successful progression may lead to an Apprenticeship within Everton, where you will have the further opportunity to study for a Level 3 Qualification.
Level 2 NVQ is essential if you wish to work within the coaching industry.
In addition to the NVQ, you will have the chance to work towards coaching awards and badges, and study towards sport leader qualifications.
An integral part of this course is volunteer work and you will have the opportunity to qualify for the Everton in the Community Volunteer Awards – a high-recognised award scheme.
GCSE Maths and English
English and Maths are core skills required by almost every employer and Higher Education institution, demonstrating communication and problem-solving skills.
Here at Everton Football College will encourage you – and support you – to strive for a minimum Grade 4 (C) at GCSE level in both subjects.
